Abridged History :

Sun Wukong is an Anthropomorphic Monkey, coming for the race of the Vanaras. He is childish, playful and mischievous. He is also quick to lose his temper. His origin is first unknown, as well as his original name. Captive since over a Century in the Shuilian Cave of the Mount Huaguo, he was free by Guanyin who send him to support the young Xuanzang during the quest he has been entrusted. Then, Guanyin give him the name of Sun Wukong and put a tiara on his head to controle his violent mood swings.
Before looking for the one who has been appointed to be his master, he went to Shuijinggong, the City of Dragons. On his way, he has to fight a Tiger in bare hands, what he did easily. Arrived to the Land of Dragons, he claimed the Ruyi Jingu Bang, an extraordinary staff, to their chief. However, the weapon was guard by a Dragon named Tuo Long. Enraged, Sun Wukong fought and kill him. He then had to run away the warth of the Dragons and headed to Liang Shan where his new master waiting for him.
There, a young man accidentally bumped on him. When Sun Wukong was about to punch the stranger, this one mutter a few words and the Monkey got a violent headache. The young man is revealed to be Xuanzang and the Journey to the West then begin.
Along the way, Three compagnons joined the group : Sha Wujin, a wise Rakshasa, Mushu, one of the son of the Dragon King and Zhu Bajie, a man who will become the rival but also the friend of Sun Wukong. During the journey, they met a whole bunch of people, such as Zhen Yuan the Immortal, who knew Sun Wukong in the past or the Princess Iron Fan, Mandodari, whom Sun Wukong crushed on, and several monstuous and dangerous creatures.
During his adventure, he learn about its origins. His real name was Hanuman and he is a Vanara. He is the son of Kisari and Anjana, but was raise by the Monkey King Hanuruha after his father's death. He was nicknamed "son of the wind god" because he was born during a violent storm. As a child, he was always facinated by the sun, that's why, at its tenth birthday, he leave the forest and travel east, to reach the sun.
Back in Chang'an after their quest, the group learned that, in fact, fourteen years passed since the begining, even if, for them, it was just a couple of months. The Empire is now shattered in Three Kingdoms was then unified by Xuanzang and his friends. The young man then became the new Emperor.
Thanksful for what he did for her husband, the new Empress Baochai entrust him with her family medaillon. No one know what happen to that object after that.  After his coronation, Sun Wukong also received the human name of "Wu Song", under which he became the leader of the 108 Su Xing after Chao Gai's death. The Outlaw Organisation then became the shadow guardian of the Empire. During his investigations, Sun Wukong discovered the truth about his friend Zhu Bajie's new wife and confronted her. After a hard fight between them, Sun Wukong managed to kill the Enchantress, but she succed to send the Monkey Man in the Netherworld.
Sun Wukong wander since in this strange world, where stange Jade Gates seems to make him travel through Time and Space. There, he met the five sons he will have with Mandodari, or so it seems. Free 200 years after, he emerged in Liang Shan, where he is reunited with the 108 Su Xing, now under the leadership of Song Jiang but in what "Wu Song" still have an honorary place.

Note :
- Sun Wukong is regarded as the main protagonist of Journey to the West, both in the novel and this adaptation. So, his adventures during the journey will be adressed in the articles of other involved characters.
- The open ending of Sun Wukong's History allow him, if needed, to get into the current story of the show.
