The 108 Su Xing

108 Su Xing

The 108 Su Xing (meaning Stars of Destiny) are a gathering of outlaws, mostly wanted by the corrupt government of the Tyran Dong Zhuo. They were gather together by Chao Gai in order to fight the government, dethrone the Tyran and to settle the Emperor Xian in his real place. As their name suggest, there is 108 outlaws, and they are all men (or so we though). After Xuanzang was made Emperor, he cleaned the name of this outlaws and offer them amnesty. Most of the group prefers not return to their former life and remains with their comrades in arms. Together, they protect the country in the shadow, for inner and outer threats. The line-up changes over time, but the 108 Su Xing are still active nowadays. During the Dark Curse, the group remains in Fairytales Land, protecting the deserted land the best as they could. They High Quarter is a large Pagoda buid deep in the mountains of the Liang Shan region.


The Founding Father :

Chao Gai

Chao Gai : He was the first leader of the Su Xing and is the one who gather the 108 outlaws together. He was a wealthy hunter and the Ward Chief of the Dongxi Village. One day, during an hunt, He met Xuanzang and saved him from Jade Face. Xuanzang then stay with him for a time. Witnessing the corruption of the government, and the people starving to death, he and six of his friends chose to rob the birthday gifts sent by Liang Shiju to his father in law. Became an outlaw, he left the village and settle in the ruins of an old pagoda, which rebuild step by step. He get then the nickname "Pagoda-Shifting King". When Sun Wukong present himself to the pagoda after meeting Xuanzang, he and Chao Gai soon get friends. After Xuanzang left, he gathered the 108 Su Xing. He get killed during the Battle of Lanka by Gao Qiu's army, before the amnesty. He served as the Spiritual Guardian of the Outlaws.


The Original Six :

They are the six close friends of Chao Gai who joined him during the rob of the birthday gifts. They disguise themself as date traders and offers strong wine to the guards. Asleep by the brew, they managed to steal the treasure without any casualty. Along their friend Chao Gai, they became outlaws and followed him in the Liang Shan region.

Wu Yong

Wu Yong : Nicknamed "the Resourceful Star" for his clever mind and strategist's abilities. He is the tactician of the Su Xing. He was a scholar in the Dongxi Village and was offered a better place in the new government. He refused and prefered join his friend in his fight against the corruption. His brillant plans allow the outlaws to wins battles even if they are largely outnumbered. He is often considered as the second in leadership. He was opposed to the amnesty, juging the government incompetent and still corrupted, but respect his comrades decision to accept it.

Gongsun Sheng

Gongsun Sheng : He is a Magic Practitioner, manipulating water in any form (ice, water, mist...). This give him the nickname "Dragon in the Clouds". He was an healer in Dongxi Village. He was approched by Chao Gai to help him because of his abilities. He first refused but, after a long talk with Xuanzang, then posing as a monk, he change his mind. He didn't joined Chao Gai in the Liang Shan region, remaining with his old mother. After she passed away, he became Zhen Yuan's student for a couple of years, where he met Xuanzang again. Asked by Dai Zong, send by Chao Gai, for help, he left the temple and joined the Su Xing. In the Battle of Lanka, he fought Gao Lian in one of the most epic magic battle.

Liu Tang HumanLiu Tang

Liu Tang :
He is a Manushya, a Rakshasa able to take a fully human form. In his human form, he still have, like all Manushya, a red birthmark. His is on is face. In his Rakshasan form, his hairs and bears turn crimson red, as well as his skin. Along with his reckless behaviour, this give him the nickname "Red Haired Devil". He was banished from the Rakshasa clan a long time ago and etablished himself in the Dongxi Village. He have some connections with the local bandits. Because of his illegal business, he was once arrested by Lei Heng but get free thanks to Chao Gai. Liu Tang have some resentment against Lei Heng, even after both of them joined the 108 Su Xing. One day, some of his bandit friends tell him about the convoy of birthday gifts, which he report to Chao Gai. After the robbing, Liu fought both Lei Heng and Zhu Tong to allow his companions to flee. He joined his friends soon after in the Liang Shan region. He will be killed some time after the amnesty, during a campaign against a rebellious faction.

Ruan Xiao'er, Xiao'wu & Xiao'qi :
Xiao'er is the oldest of the three brothers. Xiao'wu is the second and Xiao'qi the last one. The three of them are fishermen in the Dongxi Village. Unlike his brothers, Xiao'er had a white skin, blue eyes and blond hair. He is, actually, a Star from the Firmament adopted by Ruan Xiao'er (the first) and his wife before the birth of Xiao'wu and Xiao'qi. The three brothers were great sailors and were leaders of the naval forces of the Su Xing. Xiao'er is nicknamed "Tai Sui Who Stand his Ground", because he is the son of Tai Sui, a star. Xiao'wu was blood-thirsty, and if he start to smile, his ennemis generally doesn't live long after. That's give him the nickname "Short-lived Second Brother". He have the same name as his grand-father, and his the fifth of the familly to wear it. Xiao'qi share his name with his uncle and is the seventh Xiao'qi of the family. He is honnest, calm but direct in speech, giving him the nickname "Living King Yama", after the legendary ruler of the Netherworld. After the amnesty, both Xiao'wu and Xiao'qi remains with the Su Xing, while Xiao'er chose to leave the outlaws and travel West. (for more about Xiao'er, see Gentleman Starley).


Other Members :

After being etablished in the Liang Shan region, others outlaws hunted by the government, for several reasons, joined the group. Their is up to 108 Su Xing, including :

Chai Jin

Chai Jin :
He is a aristocrat, a distant member of the Imperial family. Because of his royale lineage, he inherite the "danshu tiequan" (iron certificate inscribed in red ink), placing him above the law. Thanks to it, he protected Xuanzang and Chao Gai in his house while they are on the run. Very generous, he always help people in needs, especially the Su Xing. Enraged by the help he gave to his nemesis, Gao Qiu made him arrested despite his statut. Free by the outlaws, he joined them and place the danshu tiequan on the door of the pagoda, protecting them from the law. After Xuanzang became Emperor and grant the outlaws amnesty, Chai Jin accept to destroy the certificate and live a normal live among the Su Xing. His nickname was "Little Whirlwind".

Lei Heng

Zhu Tong

Lei Heng & Zhu Tong :
Lei Heng is native of the Dongxi village, he leaved it to become a soldier in the Imperial Army. Zhu Tong was the seventh son of a magistrate and was send to the army at a very young age by his father. During their compaign, they soon get friends. After the robbing of the birthday gifts for the Imperial Tutor, they were sent to arrested the thiefs. Along with Zhu Tong, Lei Heng followed his old friend Chao Gai, but was stopped by Liu Tang. Arrested for their failure, and almost executed, the two soldiers managed to escape et joined the outlaws. Lei Heng was nicknamed "Winged Tiger" and Zhu Tong "Lord of the Beautiful Beard".

Yang Zhi

Yang Zhi :
Descendant of the long lineage of Imperial Generals. He killed Niu Er, a corrupt governor who terrorized the local residents. He gave his magic sword to a young man of the village, to defends it from any foe and he surrendered himself to the autorities. Gao Qiu, his superior, punished him violently, tortured him and tattooed his face. Degraded, he is tasked with escorting the convoy of the birthday gifts. Very strict with his men, he pushed them to their limits, leading them to being easily robbed by Chao Gai and his friends. He deserted and, some time later, get recruted within the Su Xing. His compagnions, fearing Gao Qiu, chose to deserte too. He is nicknamed "Blue Faced Beast" for his tattoo. His sword will, two centuries later, be inherited by the young man's descendant, Mulan.

Dai Zong

Dai Zong : He is a peddler from the East Empire. He is specialized in buying and selling any kind of magical artifacts. His powerful items made him several ennemi, including the Tyran himself. He is a friend of Wu Yong, who propose him to protect him among the 108 Su Xing. He then worked as smuggler for the outlaws and as their messenger. He use magical talisman to travel as fast as the the wind, giving him the nickname "Magic Traveller" among the Su Xing.

Lu Junyi

Lu Junyi :
Lu Junyi is chased by the Imperial Army for an unknown reason. He is the former student of Zhou Tong, the Imperial General. He has an androgenous beauty and always wear an jade necklace depicting a Qilin. He is nicknamed "Jade Qilin" for that necklace. He was one of the last few to join the cause. Despite his mysterious behaviour, and his secret only shared with Lu Zhishen. He is one of the most charismatic Su Xing, and became the second in command after Chao Gai death. Lu Zhishen

Lu Zhishen :
He is Lu Junyi's uncle (or so he claimed) and a comrade in arms of Zhou Tong. When his friend died, he was entrusted to the protection of Junyi. His original name was Lu Da and he was a monk in the Capital. The monastery was destroyed by the Jade Face during the Coup d'Etat. He flew the city with the former general Zhou Tong. He and his friend met Junyi in an Inn and soon take him under their wing. Zhishen and Junyi joined the 108 together. He was nicknamed "the Flowery Monk".

Mu Hang

Mu Chun

Mu Hang & Mu Chun :
Nicknamed "Unrestrained" and "Little Restrained" for their behavior and seek for freedom. They are two bandits came from the East Sea. After a fight with Sun Wukong, they get friends. Soon after the departure of Hangzuan and co, they get attacked by the Imperial Army, who seek to controle the region. Largely outnumbered they fought valiantly, but get defeated and enprisonned. About to be executed, the outlaws, leaded by Sun Wukong, stormed the execution ground and free them. They both joined the cause after that. (For more, see Gold and Silver Horned Kings)

Wu Song : It is Sun Wukong's human name. He is an honorary member of the 108 Su Xing, even after he went missing. His nickname among the Su Xing is "The Pilgrim". (see Sun Wukong)

Song Jiang

Song Jiang : He is the current leader of the present incarnation of the 108 Su Xing. His nicknamed is "Protector of Justice".
