Abridged History:

Sugriva meet Sun Wukong soon after the beggining of its journey. Claming he was his brother, he challenged him in a duel, but loose. It was later revealed that he is not Sun Wukong's brother, but a member of the Vanara, a race of human monkeys. He is actually the brother of their current king, Vali, bannished by his brother after after he tried to usurp the throne. After his duel with Sun Wukong, he continue to wander and travel to Lanka, where he met Shurpanakha, to whom he fell in love. That's not pleased his lover's brother, the king Ravana, who tried to kill him. He managed to escape. He come back years later, and run away with the Rakshasa Princess. They secretly get married. The two lovers cross again path with Sun Wukong who protect them from their pursuer, Indrajit. Grateful, Sugriva promise his "brother" his help whenever he need to. Some time later, Xuanzang get abduct by Ravana. Sun Wukong declares war to the Rakshasa's king, and came to Sugriva to remind him is word. Sugriva offered him the whole Vanara's army, if he help him to go back to the Kishkindha Kingdom. Their, he chalenge his own brother and kill him, claiming the throne. Once named king of the Vanaras, he didn't want to help Sun Wukong anymore, infuriating the latter. Thanks to the support of Tara, Vali's widow and her son Angada, Sugriva changed his mind and advance to Lanka with his army. He will be kill during the war by the Rakshasas' king, Ravana.


Notes :
- He is also based on the Six Eared Monkey of the "Journey to the West" novel.
- Despite being only 10 years old, he is an adult by Vanaras' standards, their life expectancy being 40 years old.
